Calculus 1

Calculus is not an easy subject, nor is it a beginner math subject. The class will cover pre-calc topics as needed along the way, and will progress through Limits, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, and then the final test prep using CLEP materials.

For details on pricing, see the Pricing tab above. For a subject as complex as calculus, 2 hours/wk is recommended. However, a motivated student may work ahead at their own pace and only need 1 hour/wk to check in with me for extra practice and clarification. The class includes personalized instruction and materials, including homework and feedback.

There are no “grades” issued by Berkstresser Learning. The goal is mastery of basic calculus concepts leading to success on the CLEP test. The test may be taken at Missouri State University or other testing sites when desired. Most universities will accept a minimum score on the CLEP Calculus test as credit for their own calculus course. This can be a significant cost savings, since the test costs $93 (as of Feb 2024), while college tuition runs into the thousands per class. Be sure to check with a particular institution to ensure that the CLEP Calculus test is accepted. Also, see the College Board page for CLEP Calculus for more information.

If you have opportunity to take the AP Calculus test with a school, that is also a possibility, since the primary study source is the Khan Academy AP Calculus AB video series. AP Calc is more widely accepted than the CLEP test, but it can be difficult to gain admittance to the once-a-year test given in a public school if you are not enrolled in their class. You choose the option that best fits!
